Adoption Adventures!

Justine and I decided that for our interactive narrative we would show people who may not know what it's like to go through the process of adopting a pet a little bit what it's like. It is a common theme that when undergraduate students finally receive their degrees and embark on the "real world" they feel it is time for them to adopt an animal. Sometimes, these young people may not fully understand the time commitment and lifelong nature of this decision. All Justine and I hoped for with this project was to show people a little bit about the adoption process without having to actually visit a shelter. "Adoption Adventures" puts readers in the place of someone who walks into a shelter, and is interested in adopting an animal. As the reader chooses answers to the many questions that a shelter worker may ask them, they are narrowing down their options for their furry friend as well. There are many factors such as: age, time restrictions, type of animal, and whether or not the "parent" is going to be spaying/neutering their animal in the future. We also included an option that says "adoption may not be for me" in order to show people that even though they may have gone to a shelter with hopes of taking an animal home that day, there are other options as well. Volunteering at shelters is a wonderful way to give love to all of the animals who need it while they are waiting for their forever homes. Overall, I love how this project turned out. There is always room for expansion in the breeds and types of animals that are offered, so it could be an ongoing project as well!
